Cultural Events

The Southern Ute Indian Tribe proudly displays their heritage and culture every June, at the Sky Ute Casino Pow-Wow.

The Sky Ute Casino Pow-Wow is a time for Southern Ute Tribal members and members of Tribes from throughout the country to get together and showcase their many talents.

Today the modern Pow-Wow is a gathering, a social occasion, a time for Native peoples to come together to dance, sing songs, and honor their heritage. There are many styles of dancing from traditional dances of many Native tribes. Many dances have their own legends of how they have originated; each dancer dances his feelings within himself. He may copy or watch the movement of birds on a prairie to come up with his dances or their dance steps come to them naturally through practice. The dances fall into three parts of a Pow-Wow; the Grand Entry, Intertribal Dances, and Contest Dancing.
